Might come as a surprise, but I do not tolerate people who take advantage or take the piss – especially when it comes to payment.
Now despite having processes in place, I recently got fucked over by a private client.
Someone who I thought had higher standards and a better moral compass.
Turns out I was wrong on both counts.
Needless to say, when I found out, the language was foul and the rage was intense.
Now, I don’t know about you, but me, and when it comes to a business that you’ve built from the ground up – you protect it like family.
Someone does something to hurt it?
…You go for the jugular.
Which in my mind is a scorched-earth policy that aims to seek and destroy.
Anyway, as I was going full bore, Emma (my wife) was in the room – and she was pissed off.
… At me!
Her words:
“Charlie – ENOUGH! The only person you’re screwing over in this moment is YOU…. and me, having to listen to it. Make a plan. Move forward. End of.”
Turns out I’d been simmering for over an hour.
A dick move on my behalf.
Because here’s the thing that you and I would be wise to remember…
… In this game, it’s all too easy to vent at family.
Trouble is, there comes a point where venting does nothing but spread more shit.
And right now, I suspect, at home there’s already enough shit to be dealing with.
It’s why after Emma had dressed me down, I took a breath.
I apologised.
Then I got a plan together.
Something along the lines of – don’t get mad, get even.
Worked like a charm.
