A fact of life in 9 words…
The customer isn’t always right, sometimes he’s a dyck.
This is something most men in this game can agree on.
Yet here’s the weird thing…
Chances are, you want more customers.
Believing that more customers is the road to making more money…
Despite knowing that some will suck your sanity, eat your profits, and devour your soul for good measure.
And I get it.
I was the same.
Yet, in my experience more customers works like this:
Turnover = high.
Workload =higher.
Profit = pitiful.
The endless pursuit of more customers left me bent over a barrel, constantly responding to their needs and on their schedule.
And even though this left my relationship on its last legs, I was still on the hunt for more.
After all…the more customers the better right?!
Wrong.
Because here’s the thing.
Not all customers are created equal.
In fact all customers can be put in one of four quadrants, I call it the customer money matrix.
No 1: Low Margin + Low Touch
Customers that do not pay you what you’re worth.
No 2: Low Margin + High Touch
Customers that pay peanuts while expecting you to deliver the moon on a stick.
No 3: High Margin + High Touch
Customers that pay a fair price, yet they are high maintenance, eat up profit and suck-up sanity.
No 4: High Margin + Low Touch
The kind of customers that pay you more while you ultimately do less.
… And focusing here is always the first step inside the S.A.S Protocols – simplify your market to good customers and charge more.
Much more.
Now to some, this sounds like pie in the sky.
Truth is, this is relatively easy to do.
Yet mentally there’s a blocker that comes with charging more..
There’s fear and worry… Worry that you will lose out to competitors… doubt you’re worth charging that much… Fear of what others will say or think.
Now, I can’t tell you what your blocker is, but what I can tell you is this…
Chances are you’re worth more.
You’ve got this far after all.
And if pushing to £1M+ without an army of employees is your goal then this is the first step to take.
You’ve seen the proof. Ordinary men do this all the time.
The fact of the matter is, not only does it put more money in your back pocket…
It also makes the game a whole lot more fun as you finally get paid what you’re worth for the time you put in.
Which I suspect is why you got into business in the first place.
Remember, not all customers are created equal.
…I urge you to go after the good ones.
