Last year a distant acquaintance died – he was just 43.
He got a rare aggressive cancer and was dead within weeks of diagnosis.
A bad hand in life that nobody hopes to be dealt.
He left behind a wife and three sons.
Unfortunately for his wife, her husband’s death wasn’t the only blow she was dealt…
See, despite having his own engineering business, for nearly twenty years…
Once the VAT was paid.
Once the Tax was paid.
Once NI was paid.
This man died with nothing left in the bank.
Nothing.
Now, don’t get me wrong, to the outside world he was successful.
He had a mortgage on a nice house, payments on a nice car, and loans on a nice boat.
… B-U-T when it came down to cold hard cash?
There was nothing.
Now, let me be clear, he was no loose cannon.
There was no spunking of profits on cold beer and dirty girls.
In fact, everyone praised him for his prowess.
Yet, he had done something that far too many good men in this game do….
Pumped profit back into the business for growth.
And I get it.
It’s done for the right reasons and in the pursuit of ‘good’…
Buying new kit, investing in new software, taking on new staff.
The mistake?
The belief that you can ‘wait’ to cash out.
His plan was to sell up when his boys finished school.
That day never came.
The nest egg was never built.
The ball was dropped long before he could cash in his chips.
To make matters worse, ‘how’ the business worked still lived in his head.
No systems.
No process.
100% reliance on him.
Meaning, with him long gone and despite two decades of blood, sweat and sacrifice…
… The business ground to a halt, and was un-sellable.
Before you knew it his competitors had swooped in and taken all his clients.
In the end, only the equipment sold.
For pennies on the pound.
Last I heard his wife was still trying to sell the house.
And I know what you’re thinking…
… It won’t happen to you.
To your wife.
To your kids.
But if it did – then what.
What would you leave?
What pieces would they pick up?
Anyway, the point of this email today is this…
Stop waiting.
Put automation in place now.
Put systems in place now.
Put profit in your pocket now.
…The more the better.
It’s no accident that this is a key focus of the men in my two groups and it’s no accident that when they focus on these areas they get results like this:
Matt who scaled to 101k a month after getting rid of two employees.
Steve who scaled to 76k a month with just one other member of staff.
Alan and his brother who have scaled to 105k a month with 30k profit in their two-man operation.
… Now, let me be clear, this was not always their fate.
Before they decided to apply and join us, most were plateaued and struggling at £25-35k per month.
It’s why they bit the bullet.
They knew they couldn’t carry on.
Meaning if you too are ready to scale to a 1M+ without adding more employees, then here’s what to do next:
