To me ‘staff’ is a dirty word.
Not the fun kind.
And if you’ve been around the block a bit you realise…
Employees must always be handled with extreme caution.
Hire a wrong ‘un?
Then you’re screwed.
Financially and mentally.
Bad work, bad service, bad attitudes.
Maybe they annoy other staff into leaving.
Maybe they bend you over for a payout.
Screwed, screwed and screwed again.
And back in 2019, I was in Chicago with my old mentor, Dan Kennedy.
A ballsy hater of employees.
And whilst we were together he shared this list.
A list of questions for hiring ‘bums on seats’ as he called it.
Now, I’ve given it a slight ‘One Man Empire’ edge.
But what he said then remains as true as ever.
So here is the magic seven…
- Is everything inside the business as systemised and automated as humanly possible?
If not, fix this.
Don’t hire.
- Are there any new tools/tech that have come out meaning current employees can get more done?
If yes, fix this.
Don’t hire.
- Are current employees working on anything that isn’t essential?
If yes, fix this.
Don’t hire.
- Are all current employees as efficient as humanly possible?
If not, fix this.
Don’t hire.
- Can outsourcers be used in any way?
If yes, fix this.
Don’t hire.
- Can any current employees step up and take on additional work?
If yes, fix this.
Don’t hire.
- If all else fails, can you go for a temp before you decide if you need a perm employee?
If yes, fix this.
Don’t hire (permanently.)
Now, I get it.
The list is tongue-in-cheek.
It’s also extremely useful.
See, only on rare occasions can all these questions be dismissed out of hand.
Yet truth is, far too many men in this game jump in hiring… faster than a boozy shot-gun wedding in Vegas.
And chances are, just like the wedding, they soon regret the commitment.
That’s why here my S.A.S Protocols ™ are all about pushing to £1M+ without an army of employees.
‘Bums on seats’ are rarely needed.
It’s how Chris scaled from 12k to 48k per month with no employees.
Alan and his brother scaled to 217k in profit in their two-man operation.
Matt scaled to 101k a month after getting rid of two employees.
And if you’re ready to kill the reliance on employees and you’re chomping at the bit to scale to 1M+ without an army of employees, then here’s what to do next.
