The other week I got a fine.
£250.
Not from the speed cameras on the A38.
Not from HMRC.
And not from any other agent of the government…
Nope.
I got a £250 fine from the dentist of all places.
Turns out I forgot about mine and Barney’s appointment.
It slipped my mind entirely.
Didn’t add it to the diary.
Now, that’s on me.
Still, I couldn’t help but feel a tad pyssed off, being a long-standing customer and all.
I’ve shelled out more money to them than a compulsive gambler in Vegas.
But here’s the thing:
I respect them for it and I paid out.
Why, you ask?
Because they have the brains to value their time.
And if someone wastes it?
Boom.
Fine.
Just like that.
No pampering, no coddling, just business.
Truth is I do the same thing.
See, it’s not just about the time.
It’s about the opportunity cost.
Every minute wasted could be a minute spent elsewhere…
On business or pleasure.
Truth is if you feel like customers walk all over you.
You’d be wise to consider thinking in the same way….
Be ruthless on bad behaviour.
After all, a man’s gotta have a code.
Stick to it, and make your customers stick to it.
No mercy, no exceptions.
It’s the only way to avoid getting financially cancelled in the new economy.
