Saw my favourite niece the other day.
She’s two.
Her nickname tells you everything you need to know about her attitude….
“The Boss.”
Her new thing?
Fixing poorly people.
In my quest to be the top uncle, I was the first to step into the “doctor’s surgery” at my brother-in-law’s place.
Now, not to blow my own trumpet, but I delivered a BAFTA-worthy cough and a questionable limp.
So here we are…
The performance hooks her in.
The toddler doctor will see me now…
She jams a toy thermometer in my ear and wraps my calf in bandages.
“Chaw-lee all fix now!”
Satisfied with the toddler doctor I go sit at the table and eat lunch.
No more than five mins later…
I turn around and BANG she’s back.
Staring at me with wide eyes as if to say…
“Oi Unlce – you me miss?”
The doctor’s kit was in her grubby little hands.
She shakes her head and says:
“Oh no! Chaw-lee still pawly.”
Long story short?
I was ‘pawly’ all afternoon.
Which resulted in me performing a one-man side-show of illnesses for ‘The Boss’ to fix.
The good news being, the top uncle spot is mine.
Bad news?
It got tedious.
Plus, by the time nap time rolled around, the lasagne was all gone.
But got me thinking…
Everyone likes what they like.
On rinse and repeat.
Over and over again.
Yet…
When it comes to you and I selling something it’s easy to get bored.
It’s easy to want to mix it up and get creative.
B-U-T nine times out of ten this isn’t what customers want.
They want routine.
They want to rinse and repeat.
They want you to keep doing, and getting, the same thing – consistently.
Point being this.
If you’ve found something that works…
Stick with it.
Consistently.
… and ruthlessly.
After all, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
