Two bank holidays on the bounce, and another later in the month…
Seems like piss poor planning to me.
It probably explains why we have the lowest-performing economy in the G7 – because nobody is at work!
Now don’t get me wrong, I like time off… But I like it on my choosing.
I mean, three bank holidays in May is a right royal pain in the ass for most men in our shoes who are single-handedly trying to keep the wheels of commerce turning.
Because let’s face it…
Good ole’ King Chuck has never had to earn his own keep.
One of the perks of being an unelected leader I guess.
Now, I have no strong feelings about the royals either way.
Not a royalist, not a republican.
B-U-T I do know this….
Our new monarch would not pass the One Man Empire litmus test…
He is the very opposite of self-made.
See there is something I intrinsically respect about men who have ‘gone it alone.’
Because building something of your own takes true grit and determination.
Something that most of the rank-and-file mediocre majority do not have or understand.
As you know, this game expects its pound of flesh.
And despite the fact that you and I bend over backwards to keep people in jobs, people on payroll and people out of poverty…
… There is no victory parade, coronation or bank holiday in our honour.
In fact, in most circles and in most circumstances there is rarely even a “thanks.”
Instead, and nine times out of ten, you are persecuted for what you haven’t done rather than praised for what you have.
So today, and one week after this great nation tipped their hats to our new king….
I will be taking a moment to raise my glass to men like you.
The “unemployable” who had no silver spoon in their mouth and decided that the only way to get one, was… well… to put it there yourself.
So here’s to you my friend – it’s a honour to have you in this horde and on this list.
God only knows what the state of this union would be like without you.
