In this game, I’ve made many mistakes…
With most, there are no regrets.
After all, success often comes from the ashes of failure.
B-U-T there is one that still haunts me.
It cost me big… financially, mentally, and emotionally.
The worst thing is that this mighty fukk up could have easily been avoided.
Let me rewind 12 years….
My business was doing email marketing, at scale and for the BIG boys.
I’d get a call from the clueless corporate fat cats.
They’d pay me the big bucks.
I’d then step behind the curtain with my team and do what needed to be done.
The praise came thick and fast.
And after a while so did questions…
They wanted extra.
“Look Charlie – as you’ve sorted out our email marketing can you look at our website, our lead gen, our social?”
People wanted more, lots more, and they were willing to pay.
So my greedy monkey brain thought:
“Capitalize. Easy money. Right?”
Well, you can see where this is going….
Sure, there was an influx of cash.
Initially.
But there was also…
Lots more moving parts.
Lots more people.
Lots more costs.
And lots more calls.
Needless to say, I started to drown.
My sanity and freedom sunk to the bottom of the barrel, as they got squeezed by the complexities I had invited into the business.
Same thing happened to the profits too.
They evaporated quicker than a kettle boiling.
See, inviting complexity into my house was my B-I-G mistake.
I should have scaled out the simple system that I knew already worked.
Truth is, for most men in this game, complexity is a ruthless mistress and a stone-cold killer.
Especially if your goal is around the £1M+ mark.
Afterall, complexity throttles scale, and feasts on freedom for breakfast.
It’s why in my experience, simplicity is the fastest (and easiest) road to scale and exactly why it’s a core pillar of my S.A.S protocols.
Case in point Paul in Wales.
He has doubled his business in less than six months…
… Going from 64k a month and ‘pyss poor profit’ to over £130,000 a month and money in the bank – despite being in a trade that’s “hands-on” and reliant on people.
