Been in Portugal this week leaving Emma in charge of the wonky barn renovations.
Now, my wife plus tradies is usually a match made in hell.
But not this week…
‘Matt The Painter’ has been at our place.
And my wife bloody loves Matt.
Not for the reason you’re thinking…
…A Brad Pitt lookalike isn’t secretly working on our place.
And she doesn’t love him because he’s excellent at his trade.
He is, yet when he talks about restoring windows or ceiling beams, you see her eyes glaze over.
The reason she loves Matt?
He turns up when he says.
And he leaves the house tidy.
That’s it.
Nothing to do with skill.
Nothing to do with price.
And so simple to get right that even my kid could do it.
Yet in this game, this is often overlooked.
It is easy to forget the basics whether you’re a doctor or a decorator… and start believing skill alone will keep customers happy.
Yet nine times out of ten, it won’t.
Doing the basics well is what makes customers fall in love with you.
And be loyal as hell.
Because Matt charges the most in town.
And his waiting list is longer than LeBron’s arm.
And to my wife?
No other painter will do.
