There’s some good sport going on and I’m not talking about the Euros….
To be patriotic I tried watching the first game and failed.
Got bored and gave up at half-time.
Which brings me back to the G-O-O-D sport that finished up last week.
The sport of play -off beards, brawlers and toothless wonders…
Ice hockey and the Stanley Cup.
The final was between the Edmonton Oilers and that well-known land of snow and ice, the Florida Panthers.
Emma (my wife) asked, “Do you want Edmonton to win as they are Canadian?”
I spat out my drink in disgust, “No!”
The Oilers are a local rival for my team, the Vancouver Canucks.
Like Villa vs City for Brummies…
Only with 1,159 km in between.
In the end, the Panthers got the win.
Despite being lightning-quick and coming with a side of violence, hockey has never really taken off over here.
And for the none familiar amongst us, the best description I’ve heard of how to play is this from Jared Keeso:
“Run ‘Em Up And Fill ‘Em In.”
Some guys are there to run up the scoreboard.
Some guys are there to ‘fill in’ and hit hard.
And this is a useful reminder in this game…
See, running your own business isn’t a team sport.
Everything sits with you and you alone.
But this game is a lot easier to play if you have other men around you to protect you.
…Maybe some of them are there to show you how to run up the board.
…Maybe some of them are there to show you how to hit hard.
And, not only does playing this way make the wins easier to come by.
It makes the losses easier to shake off too.
