Slower than a snail with arthritis

Yesterday, I was asked this: 

“How’s the house move going?” 

My response?

“Slower than a snail with arthritis.”

Truth is, I’ve had loads of messages about the moving saga… 

It seems folks can empathise.  

Fcuk me this process is painfully slow. 

It’s like being in the dark ages. 

Next, they’ll suggest taking a horse and cart down to London. 

But the snail’s pace isn’t the worst of it.

The most irritating thing about all this? 

The expectation setting. 

Let me explain… 

It goes like this: 

“Charlie, I’ll call you about the survey on Tuesday.”

“Cracking, thanks, Jeff.” 

Tuesday rolls around…

Tumbleweed. 

Same goes for Wednesday. 

And Thursday. 

On Friday, I leave a voicemail.  

“Jeff, you’ve pee’d me off before we’ve begun.” 

See, Jeff set this expectation. 

The ball was in his court. 

Then Jeff dropped the ball. 

And now Jeff is marked as an unreliable a-hole. 

Might you use him once? 

Sure, through gritted teeth but never again. 

And you sure ain’t recommending him. 

Yet, whilst we can all laugh at my misfortune… 

Ask yourself this…

How many times have you set expectations and then fallen short? 

Chances are, more than once. 

Truth is, far too many men in this game do it. 

And I get it. 

I was the same. 

Maybe you got busy, maybe you got sick, maybe you just forgot. 

But here’s the thing…

Your customers don’t care. 

Your card is now marked. 

And dropping the ball on expectations is a dumb way to screw yourself in this game. 

Always set expectations you can hit. 

And if you’re a smart cookie use automation to rig the process.

In the end, your war chest will thank you for it.
