Recently I was asked this:
“Charlie, I’m good at what I do (accountant) but I have a big problem. I hate sales and it makes me feel uncomfortable. How can I grow the business without sales?” Rich, Newcastle.
Short answer?
Stop thinking like an arsehole Rich.
The reality is, disliking sales is not uncommon.
The reason ‘why’ is instructive, and I’ll dig into that in a second.
But before I do, let me be clear…
I’m not talking about sales professionals here, like recruitment consultants and so on.
I’m talking about Rich, and you…
Men at the helm of their own business.
See, even though you’re good at what you do, and even though people should buy what you sell….
When it comes to actually selling it?
Things can get uncomfortable.
Why?
Selling has become a dirty word.
Something for slimeballs, charlatans and con men.
In fact, over the last two decades, there’s been a worrying trend that’s turning selling into something to be embarrassed about.
Hidden away like a dirty mag under the bed.
Especially for British men like you and I, who have been brought up with another arsehole belief…
That it’s bad to talk about money.
Society, my friend, has conditioned us to feel uncomfortable about selling.
But here’s the thing…
Nothing happens in this game until something gets sold.
– Selling puts a roof over your head.
– Selling keeps the heating on.
– Selling feeds your kids.
So, better get used to it.
And if you want more in this life, best get good at it.
Truth is, I would argue it is your moral obligation to study the art and science of good sales.
Yet most don’t.
And most men in this game let dangerous beliefs like this hold them back.
…Way back from where they could, and probably should be in this game.
It’s why I wrote my last book, ‘The Forbidden Secrets Of A One Man Empire.’
To address all these dangerous mantras head on.
And the good news is, today, you can get the book on Amazon for a steal.
Goes without saying, if you’re a stickler for the politically correct, do not click the link and get the book:
