Yesterday I saw some friends at a local Star Wars exhibition.
Where Barney, my son, was pissed that he could not touch the mint-condition 80’s Millenium Falcon set.
Anyway, whilst there my buddy shared a story that showed me how low some of society has sunk…
Seems at school pick up, he was accosted by a very outraged parent.
Turned out their kid had committed the cardinal sin – ‘being offensive.’
- Had their kid been mean? No.
- Had their kid been abusive? No.
- Had their kid handed out dead legs? No…
…Their kid had told another child that you need “a man and woman to make a baby.”
And apparently, such adult material is deeply offensive.
Now ignoring the utter fucking lunacy of this parent, there is something deeper here at play.
See, right now, we’re living in the age of outrage.
From podcasters and authors to teachers and businessmen – every day some poor tormented bastard is getting cancelled for having an opinion.
And as a result of this cancel culture, most men are now running scared.
Walking a tight rope each day, desperately trying not to offend.
And in my opinion, we’re all worse off because of it.
Especially, men like you and I.
Because in my experience those who waste time, energy and effort walking on eggshells – end up so boring, bland and broke.
Unoffensive is NOT a quality to strive for.
Authenticity is.
I’m an avid believer that we need to stop trying to protect everyone’s feelings.
Because here’s the thing…
In this life, everyone is offensive to someone, somewhere, or something at some time or another.
Making any bending the knee to this kind of dumb fuckery a dark mark of death.
So this week, I urge you and the other smart ambitious men in this horde to be AUTHENTIC to you and what you believe.
… And if that pisses someone off – so be it.
It’s their problem, not yours.
