Alright, I’ll bite.
With the budget fast approaching and the UK government seeming to think taxing everyone into oblivion is the cure for all economic ills…
It’s time to lay out a different road to fix their mess.
Now, is what I’m about to say tongue in cheek?
Sure.
Yet, I would argue fixing this broken economy and fixing a broken business have a few things in common.
…And the clowns in charge have it all completely backwards.
So, here’s what I’d do if I ran the show..
(Spoiler: it’s the same way I’d scale any business.)
1 Simplify
First rule of growing a business: cut the crap.
That means slashing anything that doesn’t directly lead to growth or profit.
C-U-T the taxes that don’t bring home the bacon.
C-U-T the regulations that do nothing but push paper around.
C-U-T the bloated government and its many useless arms.
The free market only works when you let it breathe.
But what does the government do?
Pile on more taxes, like that will ‘stimulate’ anything except misery.
2. Automate
Here’s a newsflash…
Nobody needs more government think tanks, programmes, or any other BS organisation.
Nobody needs more bureaucrats creating ‘jobs’ that do nothing but shuffle papers and collect paychecks.
Businesses automate to streamline and scale.
The government should do the same.
Get rid of the bureaucratic sludge clogging up the gears of progress.
Want a strong economy?
Automate and innovate.
Build infrastructure that allows the real economy to thrive.
3. Scale
The last thing any smart business owner does is constantly work harder and harder.
No, they scale.
Doubling down on what works.
Government should be the same.
Let entrepreneurs and businesses do their thing.
Invest in what’s already successful and get the hell out of the way.
Instead of trying to control the economy, empower the people who know how to create wealth.
Now, I suspect nothing like this is coming down the pipe come budget day.
Expect more taxes.
Expect more pain.
