I’ve never seen anything like it.
Fifteen or so B-I-G Russians (in hats) swamped me.
All of them stood at attention, listening in the snow as their lives depended on it.
Andre was in the middle of the pack.
The hoard of panic cab drivers stood around him waiting on every breath.
I guess that’s what happens when you’re Ex-KGB.
People listen or face the consequences.
The consequences for me?
Minimal.
For them, well, A LOT more serious.
Someone had let it slip at lunch that Andre was ex-KGB.
And from what I’d heard that meant bodies in the river.
You see, rewind 18 hours and I’d landed in Moscow.
And within 2 hours of being there, I was held up by my taxi driver.
Not at gunpoint BUT held up nonetheless…
He only got my suitcase, but a nice “Welcome to Russia” regardless.
It struck a nerve when I told them at the hotel.
Andre the manager was pissed.
He took a long slow drag on his cigarette…
Handed me a coffee (with a vodka).
Then issued his first command:
“Tomorrow we fix.”
He couldn’t believe this had happened to a “VIP guest” of his hotel.
It’s why I think he made it his personal mission to track down my case.
… And most importantly it’s why I was standing outside in -10C watching this “discussion” with these panicked cab drivers take place.
Seemed like a waste of time to me.
Talk about a needle in a haystack.
But once Andre had finished his speech, it didn’t take long.
Probably 45 minutes, tops.
That’s when I got the thumbs up and was ushered back into Andre’s car.
Now, there are 1.5 million or so taxis in the city.
And my new friend had apparently managed to track down the one that stole my bag.
I didn’t believe it…
But regardless – after what I just seen I wasn’t going to argue.
By this time the snow was pummeling down…
I had on two T-shirts, one jumper and a snow jacket…
But Andre stepped out of the car in just a shirt.
The cold didn’t seem to phase him.
As he bounded into the underpass, I was about to find out if the rumours were true…
Was he really Ex-KGB?
Could he really make THIS happen?
Had I just walked into a 1970’s James Bond movie?!?!
… No more than 90 seconds later, he emerged.
My bag in tow.
… With EVERYTHING still intact.
My cowboy boots.
My laptop.
My passport.
Talk about speaking to the right person at the right time.
Someone that knew what to do. And how.
Funny really, because when you think about it, this game that we call business is exactly the same.
The shortcut to winning is always about WHO you know.
Those who can tell you WHAT to do and HOW.
In fact, it’s why back in 2016 I was in Russia in the first place.
I guess the likes of Nestle, Estee Lauder and L’Oreal saw me as their man.
The man who KNOWS what to do and HOW, when it comes to marketing and making money – at scale.
Why else would they fly me out there at top dollar to help 🙂
The moral of the story is this…
… IF you’re travelling to Moscow, stay at the Marriot.
Andre’s the manager.
He’s the man you need to know.
Just tell him Charlie sent you 🙂
And IF you are looking to scale to 1M+ without an army of employees…
… Then, well, you probably want me stood in your corner.
It’s a surefire way to shortcut the WHAT and the HOW.
In fact, if the track record of my S.A.S protocols prove anything, it’s that the results men get here are more predictable and consistent than any KGB agent skulking around in the dark.
Truth is, they’re how:
Paul from N. Wales who scaled to 115k month for the first time ever with his small five-man team.
John who scaled to 48k month with three employees in his irrigation business.
… and Steve who scaled to 76k month with just one other member of staff.
So if you are looking for the what and how, when it comes to scaling to 1M+ without an army of employees, here’s what I’d urge you to do next:
