As you read this I’m in the Sunshine State.
Beaches, a trip to Universal Studios, and a new pair of cowboys are on the cards.
Now, last Tuesday (and when we should have been packing) we sacked it off and went out for dinner with friends.
Halfway through, I overheard the kids whispering…
“My Dad hates going to work,” Barney’s buddy muttered.
My son’s response, as he shovelled fries into his face, was a shrug and…
“Nah, mine really LOVES work and working.”
He was right.
Now, this goes against conventional thinking.
And most would be embarrassed to even admit that this was the case.
As they have swallowed the B-I-G lie that is “work-life balance.”
My opinion?
… 9 times out of 10 “work-life balance” does more harm than good.
It comes back to the bullshit that we’ve all been fed…
….that to get on in life you’ve gotta take a boring job to give your family some sort of standard of living.
Infecting kids with the idea that work must be boring.
And spreading the lie that all fun must come outside of work.
My dad fell victim to this hook, line, and sinker.
His ‘prize’ was a boring job, in a boring bank, for 40 long boring years…
… With a couple of redundancies thrown in for good measure!
FUCK THAT.
Life is too short to wait until retirement to enjoy it.
Which brings me to the point of this email today and your mantra for money moving forward.
You control your own destiny.
- If you find your business boring, change it.
- If you endure dickhead customers, sack them.
- If you do dull meetings, stop going.
As captain of your ship, you hold all the cards…
So start doing fun shit – at work.
The side effect being, that in one fell swoop we will all stop infecting the minds of the next generation with dumbfuckery like…
- Work is boring.
- Earning money is painful.
- Life is to be endured.
… When in truth and when you play this game the right way, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Make More. Provide More. Be More.
