My son got in trouble at school… trouble that involved having to be hauled up in front of the Head Teacher.
Now, this isn’t his usual M.O.
Usually, the threat of punishment pulls him back into line.
But this time?
No deal.
And what’s more, I discovered my son was not sorry.
At all.
Quite the opposite…
Turns out some little oik repeatedly whacked a football at his friend’s head.
Now this friend is a ride-or-die for Barney.
So when he saw what was happening, he stepped in.
In his words…
“I rugby ripped that football out of his hands and then launched it down the field where he couldn’t get it.”
Chaos descended.
They all got hauled in front of the Head.
She asked them to apologise and promise that it wouldn’t happen again.
And this is where Barney dug in….
“I would do it all over again, Miss.”
Ahhhhhhh.
And maybe we should have punished him at home.
We didn’t.
Instead, we talked about trust and friendship.
And having good friends that have your back.
And this got me thinking about this game…
Where you often live as a lone wolf.
After all, the burden of the business sits with you.
Everything rests on your shoulders.
And the reality is that folks in jobs (good, bad or ugly) do not understand this.
Meaning for men in this game, trust and friendship is a hard nut to crack.
And having ‘where are we burying the bodies buried’ friendships?
Rare indeed.
Yet, in life, especially in this life of running a business, you need people in your corner…
Men that get you, understand you, and that will fight your corner.
Not only does it make this game easier as they have your back and show you the way…
It makes things a hell of a lot more F-U-N.
So after reading this, I urge you to make moves to find your tribe.
