Why if you want to hit £1M+ customer ain’t king

Got this in last week:

“Charlie, you seem to treat all your customers with disdain and they love you for it. How do you get away with it?! Don’t you care?” Mark, Swansea. 

========

Short answer?

Nope, I don’t care, Mark.

Now the more instructive answer is this:  

It’s not disdain, it’s mistrust. 

I’ve been around the block so I automatically mistrust everyone at first pass. 

Now, there are folks who I would trust with my life. 

But that trust is hard-earned. 

Because anyone who has worked with customers knows this to be true: 

“Give them an inch and they will take a mile.” 

Truth is, some folks love to royally take the p1ss. 

It’s why I set standards. 

Standards on the hours I work – 9 to 3 pm.  

Standards on when I take calls – on my schedule and always booked in advance. 

Standards on where I take meetings – within a 10-mile radius of my house. 

Now, my standards are always laid out upfront. 

And let me be clear – I do “lose” a lot of work because of it. 

To some, these standards are unreasonable. 

To the guy wanting 8 pm phone calls, constant email replies, or endless meetings, I’m kryptonite… 

Automatically repelling them, never seeing a sniff of their money. 

But I’d ask you to consider this… 

If a relationship starts with someone yanking your chain…

  • How bad will they get? 
  • How much time will they eat up?
  • How much profit will they suck up? 

Chances are, even if you have any profit left at the end of it, the scraps of money you make won’t be worth the price you pay mentally. 

The truth is that good standards attract good customers. 

Customers that are reasonable and that pay well. 

It’s part of Simplification inside the S.A.S Protocols. 

Because the reality of your world is this: 

Y-O-U run your own business, meaning Y-O-U make the rules. 

  • How many hours do you want to work? 
  • How hands-off do you want to be? 
  • How much money you want to make? 

Now, I’m not saying you can work 3 hours a week and be a billionaire. 

That ain’t happening. 

And I’m not saying arsehole customers won’t slip through the cracks. 

They will. 

It happens to me too. 

But I am saying that you can scale to 1M+ and not be at the end of a customer’s leash. 

Because this is exactly what my S.A.S Protocols are designed to do. 

They are about you working less and making a lot more.
