Ahhhh, the deluded employed folk…
Last week I had a ‘fun’ conversation with one such fella.
There I was picking up Barney (my son) from rugby camp.
Yep, in the week where the sun melted us all, my son chose to play rugby.
By the end of the camp, he was questioning his life choices.
Anyway, at pick up I saw another Dad I recognised.
And the conversation went like this:
Him: “Are you still going to the old gym? Haven’t seen you in a while.”
Me: “Yeah still going. Usually around lunch.”
Him: “ You’re lucky working for yourself, you can do whatever you want.”
Hmmm.
The old ‘lucky’ jibe.
In my experience this isn’t how most men in this game feel, yet it is how you are perceived by the employed masses.
‘Lucky’ gets bandied about a lot when it comes to men that have been bold and built something of their own.
Like it all just fell into your lap in a puff of smoke.
Now, I’m not saying lady luck doesn’t play a part, it does in everything in this life.
But chances are, to get to where you have got to in this game…
…You have worked harder than most.
…You have risked more than most.
…You have sacrificed more than most.
And you have probably lost more than most along the way too… lost savings, lost sanity, lost relationships.
Reality is, most in this game, do not feel lucky.
And nor should you.
Chances are you worked your balls off for the life you live.
And if that means being lucky enough to build a rocket to Mars… to ride a ridiculous motorbike… or to go to the gym at lunch time.
Enjoy it.
Because the uncomfortable truth is ‘luck’ it’s a cover story.
Most times, it’s code for “I’m jealous.”
And I get it. Jealousy is a hard emotion to stomach.
Yet it is worth remembering the jealousy of others is not your problem.
Never feel guilty for what you have earned.
Because no matter what the deluded employed folks think…
You’ve earned it.
Until next time.
Make More. Provide More. Be More.
