A fact of life – in just 9 words:
The customer isn’t always right, sometimes he’s a dick.
Now, I get this goes against the grain.
… And pushes back on what you and I have been told since day dot about ‘customer service’.
However…
I would argue that if you have ever worked directly with customers…
Deep down.
You know I’m right.
The fact of the matter is, some customers do not deserve to give you money.
Mainly because of the deluded demands that they dictate.
Ones that in the cold hard light of day, leave you left out to dry and scratching around trying to find a way to make their job now profitable.
It’s why despite all the happy-clappy leadership books claiming otherwise, I routinely sack customers.
Even ones that I like.
At the first sign of bad behaviour, they have to take a swift bullet to the back of my head.
I value my time and my other clients’ time too much.
It all comes back to One Man Iron Law #7:
No Dickheads Allowed
After all…
Letting someone call you day or night.
Letting someone make constant changes, revisions, and tweaks.
Or letting someone pay you late or drive down your value…
Is not scalable.
Ever.
And let’s not forget, it’s your business, not theirs.
Which means you get to run it how you like.
If they don’t like that, well in my mind they can lump it.
Truth is and in my experience, a sacked toxic customer will always be quickly replaced by
someone better.
