A bad omen.
One that’s leaving even the most profitable sleepwalking into a crisis.
Let me explain…
Last week I had a conversation with a man who wanted to step into one of my groups.
Now on paper, this particular individual ticked all the right boxes.
Real business.
Real ambition.
Real potential.
… BUT the conversation swiftly took a turn for the worse as I started digging.
A twist that I’ve witnessed more and more over the last quarter.
See, on paper, he had a real business.
Yet when it came down to brass tacks, the uncomfortable truth was this…
Despite being very (very) profitable, he was sleepwalking into oblivion.
Because he only had three real customers.
And when a ‘business’ is built on just a couple of clients – it isn’t a real business.
Not a good one anyway.
The bigger, and much more worrying, problem with this kind of operation?
Risk.
Because they can turn off the taps at any minute.
… Meaning your exposure can, and will, get you killed in the cross-fire,
In other words, they have you by the short and curlies.
You are the servant.
They are the master.
It’s why One Man Empire Iron Law #67 is this:
Never Have All Your Eggs In One Basket.
More specifically I’d urge you to never have any customer make up more than 14% of revenue.
… Especially if you are serious about pushing to 1M+ with as little risk as possible.
So today…
If you are relying on two, three, or any small number of customers to keep your head above water – we should talk about your exposure to risk – urgently.
