Fuck – this weekend has been hectic.
Yesterday afternoon I landed home from a mastermind meet in Rome…
Yesterday evening friends got hitched.
… And between those two, I squeezed in a quick wardrobe change on the M6.
(I can confirm that no tie was worn but shorts and flip-flops were in full swing.)
Then, tomorrow it’s my son’s (Barney) birthday – he’s nine.
His request for a birthday party?
Outdoor laser tag – which we did two weeks ago and was carnage.
Now, over this past year, his social awareness has exploded.
… And a few nights ago at bedtime, his eyes got big and he whispered:
“Dad – [FRIEND] says it’s not cool to try at school.”
Needless to say, we then had a late-night, man-to-man, chat about “trying.”
My opinion?
If you believe it’s not cool to try…
Then you must also believe that it’s not cool to want more for yourself – whether that’s material, emotional, or physical.
Show me a man who is ambivalent, and I’ll show you a man who will fail.
Because achieving anything in this game means trying.
…Sometimes trying and winning.
…Sometimes trying and losing.
But if you don’t even try?
Well fuck, failure is a given and guaranteed.
After all my friend, wanting and trying for more is a GOOD thing.
It’s what separates us from the masses.
… And what made most self-made men in our shoes stand up and be counted in the first place.
A willingness to try and give a shit a go when others would rather give in before stepping up.
So, this week and despite what others will whisper in your ear, remember that the spoils will always go to those men that ruthlessly try at all costs.
Make More. Provide More. Be More.
