Barney (my son) had a rugby tournament the other weekend and it was carnage…
See, this tournament was at home, Lichfield.
And his team has a big squad.
So they put out three teams. Which is great for the club…
Not so great for getting a rest.
The boys played every minute of every game.
Safe to say they were knackered.
They looked like a bunch of distance runners crossing the finish line at the end of the day.
Were beyond knackered by the end.
And as I was on the touchline all day, I talked to a lot of other Dads.
One conversation was pretty uncomfortable.
Turns out one of the guys runs a well-known local business and I asked how it was going.
A long conversation can be summarised like this…
“On paper it’s good-ish. In reality, I haven’t had a proper holiday in at least 5 years.”
This guy had been on a couple of holidays this year already, cruising the Caribbean and skiing the Alps…
B-U-T he was only ever physically there.
Mentally he was still working.
Still keeping an eye on the business… still babysitting staff… still trying to keep visibility on it all.
He lived life always on the clock and it showed – mentally and physically.
It’s a painful reality for far too many successful men in this game.
Now, not only is this draining and exhausting…
(This guy looked a wreck.)
… But it makes pushing to 1M+ difficult.
Because this way of operating leaves leaves no capacity to scale.
And freedom is well and truly out the window.
Yet far too many men keep plugging on down this exhausting tunnel.
Doing the same things year in and year out and expecting different results.
And being pee’d off when things stay the same, or get worse.
There are ways to break the chains.
Especially if you want more profit and more freedom.
You can have your cake and eat it.
But you’ve got to commit to operating in a new way.
And that choice (and it is a choice btw) sits with you.
So, is this year’s holiday going to be another case of ‘emails on the beach’?
Or will you make a move and finally be able to have a proper holiday?
The choice is yours.
