Last night Barney dropped this bombshell before bed:
“Dad, why do you have a business? Why don’t you have a proper job like Jamie’s Dad?”
Hmmmmmm….
I paused.
I pondered.
I replied.
“Because Jamie’s dad is an idiot son.”
Truth is I didn’t actually say this.
… B-U-T I did think it.
Now, the real reason I choose to operate my businesses isn’t what most think…
It’s not the cars.
It’s not the toys.
It’s not the perks.
I have no interest in that.
For me, a business it’s about one thing and one thing only…
Autonomy.
Consider that doing:
- What you want
- When you want
- Where you want
- With whom you want
- At the price you want
- With the terms you want
Which quickly rules out employment, contracting, freelancing, or any life where you’re a performing monkey – no matter how well paid.
Now, doing what you want, when you want, where you want, sounds pretty good, right?
Yet…
This is NOT what most business gurus tell men like you and I to focus on.
Apparently, in their arsehole opinion, the goal of business is to go big or go home.
… And that in order for you to be successful, you should go BIG on hiring lots of employees to show others you’ve made it.
But in my experience, here’s the trouble with that old way of thinking…
It forces you into a prison of your own making.
Trapped in a business where turnover looks good but the cash in your back pocket is pitiful for the work you put in.
It’s why most become overwhelmed, exhausted and fighting fires.
A miserable existence that starts to kill momentum, marriages and mood.
… And one that couldn’t be further from freedom or control.
It’s why when it comes to what I do for men here, the goal is this:
Total Autonomy.
Think of that as transforming your current, complex, control-less business into a simple, scalable, sanctuary that makes you profitable F-A-S-T and without the bullshit.
